new Medicare Bill,

President's Signature First Step Toward Privatization
Statement from Alliance for Retired Americans by Edward F. Coyle,
Executive Director - Alliance for Retired Americans:
"The Bush administration and Congress have willfully squandered a
rare opportunity to do what's best for America's most vulnerable and
deserving citizens - seniors - and have deliberately chosen profits over
people."
"They have callously used a much-needed and long-awaited
prescription drug benefit as an excuse to privatize Medicare and keep
drug prices excessively high. They profess to be looking out for older
Americans, but when it's known who truly stands to profit from this
shameful legislation, those who betrayed seniors will be exposed for
their hollow political victory."
"This bill does nothing to bring down the high costs of
prescription drugs. What it will do is cause 2.7 million retirees to
lose the drug coverage they already have. That's progress?"
The Alliance for Retired Americans is a nationwide organization of more
than three million union retirees and other older and retired Americans
who work together to make their voices heard in the laws, policies,
politics and institutions that shape their lives.
