Seniors group
forms partnership
with new global drug discount network
Sacramento, CA May
3, 2005 — A leading California senior organization is launching an
innovative web-based and mail-order program to help consumers find
safe, lower cost drugs from more than a dozen countries worldwide.
Hank Lacayo, State
President of the Congress of California Seniors (CCS) today
announced that CCS has entered into an agreement with SafeSourceRx,
an international pharmacy and marketing group with experience in
providing prescriptions via the Internet. Lacayo said the program
and new website will launch in late May in conjunction with the
organization’s 28th annual meeting, and as part of Senior Awareness
Month.
He noted that while the program is an initiative of CCS, it is not
limited only to use by his organization’s members, nor only to
seniors.
“America’s seniors
have led the fight for access to affordable and safe prescription
drugs,” Lacayo observed. “This has opened the eyes of politicians,
health care advocates, and policymakers to the needs of workers
without benefits, people with inadequate coverage, disabled people,
and many others who, irrespective of age, are victims of the
predatory pricing of large pharmaceutical companies. We hope all
those who need help can take advantage of this program.
Organizations like the Congress of California Seniors must step
forward to address problems such as affordable health care which
affect all of us. Everyone needs help with the cost of life-saving
drugs.”
The web site,
www.SafeSourceRx.com, will be much more than an order taking
site, Lacayo explained.
“We believe more
people need more information about health-related issues. We will
provide information and links on proper (or improper) use of
prescription drugs, health and fitness tips, managing chronic
illness, how to make purchases on the Internet, and how to keep
medical and financial data secure. From time to time we will also
report on the status of legislation to expand access to affordable
drugs. Americans want to be involved in managing their health, and
need to get more involved in pushing for fair health policies.”
“The drug
companies have built a wall around American consumers and forced us
to pay higher prices than anywhere else in the world. It is this
duplicity that has prompted CCS into action.”
“We have
established a truly global network of suppliers of both brand-name
and generic prescription drugs from countries with safety standards
as high, even higher than in the U.S.,” said Lacayo. “This is a
network of safe, reliable sources of drugs manufactured in
FDA-inspected facilities in different countries, or safe, lower-cost
generic alternatives. We will focus on safety, oversight, customer
service, safe distribution, and data security.”
Lacayo noted that
the management of SafeSourceRx has years of leadership and
experience in providing safe, low-cost, prescription drugs to
American citizens.
“We are excited
about this partnership with the founders of Canada’s Universal Drug
Store, a leading mail order pharmacy. We have toured their
facilities in Manitoba and know first-hand that they adhere to the
highest standards in the industry,” Lacayo said.
The Congress of
California Seniors, formed in 1977, is a member-based senior
advocacy and education organization which works to improve the lives
of seniors and their families.
