PA Department of Aging Secretary urges older
athletes to 'Go for the Gold'
HARRISBURG, Pa., July 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Secretary of Aging
Nora Dowd Eisenhower today offered encouragement
to older athletes preparing to compete for gold,
silver and bronze medals at the Pennsylvania
Senior Games. This year's competition is held in
conjunction with the
Keystone
State Games in York, July 24-29.
"Athletes participating in this year's games show others why it is
important to remain physically fit and active as they grow older," said
Eisenhower. "Exercising regularly and following a healthy diet can
dramatically improve the quality and length of your life. When paired
with the healthy and stimulating competition that is offered through the
Senior Games, it adds up to a lifestyle that is worthy of a gold medal."
The Department of Aging is a sponsor of the Pennsylvania Senior
Games, which is open to participants 50 years of age or older as of Dec. 31,
2007.
Events include archery, badminton, basketball, billiards, bocce, bowling, casting, darts, disc golf, football throw, golf, horseshoes,
shuffleboard, softball throw, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track & field and team volleyball. Competing classes are divided by age and gender.
"We hope that Pennsylvania residents of all ages can find the
opportunity to attend the Pennsylvania Senior Games and cheer on the
athletes and volunteers who are part of this important, statewide event," said Eisenhower. "If you missed the deadline to participate in the games this year, check with your local Area Agency on Aging for details on
local games being held throughout the summer, or for other local opportunities
to stay healthy and physically fit."
