Statement from Larry Minnix, President & CEO
American Association of Homes and Services
for the Aging on the 45th Anniversary of the
Older Americans Act
WASHINGTON, July 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/
-- The following is a statement from Larry
Minnix, President & CEO, American
Association of Homes and Services for the
Aging, on the 45th Anniversary of the Older
Americans Act:
"The 45th anniversary of the Older Americans
Act (OAA) is an important landmark in our
country's commitment to meeting the needs of
older adults.
"The OAA funds programs that provide older
Americans with the essential supportive
services they need to age independently and
in their own homes. These services include
home-delivered meals, family caregiver
support, transportation and adult day care.
"Across
the country, thousands of AAHSA members work
within their communities to ensure that the
OAA programs provide assistance to older
adults who need it the most.
"We urge Congress to increase funding for
these programs by the 7.4 percent requested
in the president's budget for next year. A
funding increase would ensure that
individuals continue to receive the care and
services they need to age with dignity and
independence.
"As our nation's aging population continues
to grow, an investment in the OAA is an
investment in security and safety for the
future. And that's a future where all older
Americans receive the services they need,
when they need them, in a place they call
home."
