Hospice
Foundation of America publishes new book on grief
WASHINGTON,
Jan. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/-- Hospice Foundation
of America (HFA) announces the publication of Living
With Grief(R): Before and After the Death, the most
recent addition to HFA's Living With Grief(R) book
series. This new publication offers insight into the
most current theoretical perspectives on loss and
grief.
Edited by Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, the book features 18
articles, personal essays, and specific resources
addressing a wide range of topics relating to loss.
Living With Grief(R):
Before and After the Death has been developed in
conjunction with HFA's annual Living With Grief
teleconference, a live satellite broadcast that will
be moderated by Frank Sesno on March 22, 2007 and
seen in more than 2,000 communities across North
America.
For the cover art, Hospice Foundation of America
requested grief-related artwork from hospices
nationwide. Hospice patients, family members,
professionals and volunteers produced submissions.
"Woven Memories" from Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice
in Wichita, Kansas, was chosen to be used as the
cover image for Living With Grief(R): Before and
After the Death.
"We
are delighted that "Woven Memories" was selected as
the cover art for this year's teleconference book",
noted Nadine Reimer Penner, Director of Bereavement
Services at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. "As part
of an invitation to a memorial service, family
members were given the opportunity to bring an
article of clothing that had been worn by their
loved one. Swatches from the clothing were woven
into the tapestry during the service. Our goal was
that the tapestry ... would illustrate that people
who die
continue to be alive in us and become part of us.
Indeed, they are woven into the very fabric of our
lives."
Doka stated that, "The choice of this artwork, and
the story of how it was created, illustrates two of
the major themes in the book. The piece beautifully
reflects the individuality of the grief process,
while focusing on the memories that allow us to
continue a connection with those who have died."
