Get a break courtesy of the IRS ... e-file your taxes for free

Millions of taxpayers nationwide can electronically prepare and file their taxes this year at no charge thanks to the IRS...ever said "the best things in life are free" may have been right.

However, beginning in mid-January, 95 million taxpayers will have access to a completely free service from the IRS that helps them electronically prepare and file their federal taxes.

The service is called Free File. All you need to qualify is an adjusted gross income of $54,000 or less in 2007.

Free File is offered by the Internal Revenue Service in partnership with the Free File Alliance, LLC.

The Alliance is a group of industry leading private-sector tax preparation companies. The program was launched in 2003, and 19 million people have already taken advantage of it.

So, forget about those long paper forms, with Free File, there's less chance for making errors and you'll get your refund in half the time. To access Free File go to www.irs.gov. It's available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, beginning mid-January 2008. Free File is available in English and Spanish.

 Did you know?

 - 95% of those who used Free File before would use it again

- 96% of those who have used Free File found it easy to use

- 98% of those who have used Free File said they would recommend it to others
