As Governor Schwarzenegger faces decision on
whether to sign bills ... Hundreds of
Nursing Home Care Advocates to call on
Governor to protect seniors!
Broad Coalition of Senior Advocates, Family
Members, Residents, Nursing Home Owners and
Workers to Deliver 10,000 Postcards Calling
on Governor to Sign AB 1629 to Fix Funding
for Nursing Home Care
"California's nursing homes are in crisis
and our most vulnerable citizens are
suffering," said Gary Passmore, executive
director of the Congress of California
Seniors. "The Nursing Home Quality Care Act
will help improve funding and care. To
protect seniors, the Governor must sign this
bill."
The Nursing Home Quality Care Act (AB1629)
will change the way Medi-Cal funds nursing
homes to improve quality and accountability
by basing reimbursements on the actual cost
of providing care. AB 1629 will bring in an
estimated $900 million in federal Medicaid
dollars for nursing home care over the next
four years.
Coalition members gathered 10,000 postcards
from nursing home residents, family members,
and caregivers, as well as senior advocates
and others calling on the Governor to
protect seniors by signing AB 1629
immediately.
