Premiere of a New St. Louis feature film, “The Gateway
Arch: A Reflection of America” set for August 19 at the
Fox Theatre...from
the same team that created “The World’s Greatest
Fair”...St.
Louis native Kevin Kline to narrate
St. Louis, MO – Civil Pictures and the filmmakers that
created the award-winning documentary on the 1904 World’s Fair
announced today the World Premiere of their new feature film, “The
Gateway Arch: A Reflection of America.” The film will play for ONE
NIGHT ONLY at the Fox Theatre on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 7:30
p.m.
St. Louis native Kevin Kline, one of the most versatile and
respected actors of his generation, narrates “The Gateway Arch: A
Reflection of America” - the first major film about the St. Louis
Arch in nearly 40 years which includes long lost footage that has
been transferred to digital cinema. For the first time, this
documentary tells the complete story of the Arch – from Thomas
Jefferson, Lewis & Clark and the pioneers to the monument’s design,
completion and symbolism. The documentary places the Arch alongside
the Statue of Liberty as a great international symbol of America.
The story is told through interviews with historians, architects and
construction workers and includes rare images compiled from archives
across the Country.
“The story of the Arch, the icon of St. Louis, is truly an American
story – not just a St. Louis story,” says Bob Miano, who co-directed
the film with Scott Huegerich. Huegerich adds, “We have assembled a
stellar team of writers, experts, musicians, film footage and photos
to tell the amazing story of why the Arch was built and the process
of building this historic monument. The film really takes your
breath away! Seeing it on the big screen makes you feel like you
could walk right into it.”
The World Premiere of Civil Pictures’ first documentary film “The
World’s Greatest Fair” quickly sold out the 4,500 seat Fox Theatre
in 2004. The film has gone on to win multiple awards, including
three Emmy awards, a CINE Golden Eagle award, a Telly award, the
Missouri Humanities Council’s “Governor’s Award,” and two
international film festival awards. It is currently airing on public
television stations in the U.S. and abroad.

About Kevin Kline
A St.
Louis native and Priory School graduate, Kevin Kline won Tony Awards
for On the Twentieth Century and The Pirates of Penzance before
leading roles in Sophie's Choice (1982) and The Big Chill (1983)
made him a Hollywood star. Adept at comedy and drama on stage and
screen, Mr. Kline won an Academy Award for his madcap performance in
A Fish Called Wanda and received accolades for his stage
interpretations of Richard III and Hamlet. Refusing to abandon his
passion for theatre while working in films as diverse as Dave and
Cry Freedom, Kevin Kline often has been called the "American
Olivier.” He most recently received a Tony nomination for his
portrayal of Falstaff in Shakespeare’s Henry IV at Lincoln Center.
Mr. Kline has made more than 30 films, appearing most recently in
Robert Altman’s Prairie Home Companion. This summer, Mr. Kline can
be seen in New York in the Shakespeare in the Park production of
Mother Courage and Her Children. In fall 2006 Kevin Kline will star
in the Public Theatre production of King Lear.
