a Global campaign to help children with
Diabetes...Rising
pop artist and Diabetes sufferer uses his
Star Power for a good cause
November 2007 (Medialink) - Do you suffer
from diabetes, or have a friend or family
member who does? “American Idol” finalist
and pop vocalist Elliott Yamin, who has type
1diabetes, is helping raise awareness of the
global burden of diabetes and draw
particular attention to people who do not
have the resources they need to fight the
disease.
By serving as a global ambassador, Yamin is
teaming up with the Inspired by Diabetes
campaign. The campaign asks people with
diabetes, as well as their family, friends
and healthcare professionals, to express how
diabetes has impacted their lives — and
share those stories with others around the
world. Together, they hope to bring diabetes
to the public's attention, inspire action to
improve diabetes care and unite individuals,
families and communities affected by
diabetes around the world.
At the heart of this campaign is the
Creative Expression Competition, which seeks
expressions of the challenges and triumphs
of the diabetes journey through art, essay,
poetry, photography and music. By telling
their story in a creative way, those who
enter will help children in need. Yamin will
serve as a judge for contest entries from
the U.S.
