Video Report: Major League Baseball celebrates the 60th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson

April 2007 (Medialink) -- The national celebration of Jackie Robinson Day will take place at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, April 15th, 2007. Special events will be held throughout the weekend to mark the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's entry into the Major Leagues. He was the first African-American player of the modern era.

Major League Baseball will be inviting players to wear the number 42, the number Robinson wore, to commemorate him. More than 150 players plan on wearing the number for a day, including the entire rosters of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

There will also be a special feature on "This Week in Baseball" airing Saturday, April 14th. Fellow MLB players and celebrities alike will be paying tribute to the great sports legend who thrilled fans, shattered baseball's color barrier and changed the face of a nation.
