Elaine
Miseta celebrates
60 years of service at White Castle
(June
6, 2002) Columbus, OH - When Elaine Miseta began working for White Castle
on June 8, 1942, each little square burger cost 5 cents and founder, E.W.
"Billy" Ingram, was still running the company. During that time,
she has served as secretary to all three presidents of the company. There
were no holes in the hamburger patties, no cheeseburgers or shakes
appeared on the menu, and her wage was a mere $17 per week.
In
a company that prides itself on the dedication of its employees and
celebrates their longevity, Miseta has achieved a true milestone,
celebrating an amazing 60 years of service. Miseta's original plan was to
stay for one or two years to earn extra cash.
More
than 902 employees have qualified for White Castle's 25-Year Club
celebrating 25 years of consecutive service to the company. Of those, more
than 300 remain on the active payroll. Miseta is the charter member of the
“60 year club.”
When Miseta began working for White Castle, the big issues affecting the
company were government-imposed meat rationing and the loss of employees
to enlistment in the military because of World War II. She has been
employed at White Castle longer than most other fast food franchises
including McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King have existed.
On
June 7, White Castle will honor Miseta for her six decades with the
company with a ceremony at the corporate offices at 555 West Goodale
Street in Columbus, Ohio. At 10 a.m. White Castle president and CEO E.W.
"Bill" Ingram III will kick off the celebration by awarding
Miseta the first ever “60 Year Service Pin.”
Other tributes include
banners signed by White Castle team members and a special video
celebrating Miseta’s dedication and accomplishments. “When it comes to
loyalty and dedication, Elaine has provided an example that reinforces
what White Castle is all about. We’re all family here, and Elaine is a
very special part of the family feeling we think makes this a special
place to work,” Bill Ingram commented.
Miseta
is now working for a third generation of Ingram presidents. She is the
administrative assistant for Billy's grandson Bill, as well as the
Purchasing Department. She has held that position since Billy's son and
Bill's father, Edgar was promoted to the day to day operations of the
president's position
in
1958.
Bill Ingram became president in 1977. Miseta started as part of the
stenographic pool before she transferred to the Purchasing Department as a
clerk.
She
was later promoted to secretary of the department and subsequently
the support of the president's office was added to her responsibilities.
Miseta
resides in Upper Arlington with her husband of nearly 52 years, Frank. The
Misetas count photography and travel among their hobbies.
